Small notes from May

May… I wonder, May might be my favourite month of the year — May is one of those ‘life-in-technicolor!!’-kind of months. It’s full of hope and potential. There’s lots of national holidays, great weather and pretty flowers in bloom. It feels like a great diversion from what’s getting to us in our daily lives. Or maybe, lovely motivation to try and change the things we want to change. Somehow spring is a wonderful reminder of how beautiful change can be.

It’s these monthly recaps that make me realise how fast time goes by… but let’s not get all doom-and-gloom now and go on to the fun stuff! It’s a mess this time, but then… so is life, right? Life is life is life, eh?

Books read: Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, Silence: The Power of Quiet in a World Full of Noise by Thich Nhat Hanh and We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Oh, and I got to finish my reading challenge over at Goodreads this year — I read 20 books, I might need to up those numbers next year. (See Goodreads)

Films seen:
1. She and Her Cat: Everything Flows
2. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
3. The Shallows
4. Hidden Figures
5. The Hitman’s Bodyguard
6. Deadpool 2
7. De kinderen van Juf Kiet

No re-watches this month, see Letterboxd for more details.

It’s been an interesting month book-wise, film-wise, life-wise. I don’t feel like putting words to the things. Or rather, I feel incapable of putting words to the things. So I let silence speak to you, literally. I hope you can appreciate it. And if not, I hope you can laugh about the number of non-fiction or so-called ‘self-help’ books I’m reading this year — yet don’t seem to become more resolute when forming my opinions.

“All the wonders of life are already here. They’re calling you. If you can listen to them, you will be able to stop running. What you need, what we all need, is silence. Stop the noise in your mind in order for the wondrous sounds of life to be heard. Then you can begin to live your life authentically and deeply”

― Thich Nhat Hanh, Silence: The Power of Quiet in a World Full of Noise

Most listened to tracks:
Alt-J – Dancing In The Moonlight (Its Caught Me in its Spotlight)
Bombadil – Thank You
Honne – Me & You
