The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou (2004)

One of my resolutions this year was trying to watch all Wes Anderson films. While I’ve seen a few already, I’ll try and convince you to see some of the ones I’m seeing this year too. Just because I think watching them would make your day too! – Mind you, every picture in this post is from the Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou. I don’t dare to take any credit. Just please go watch it, it’s magnificent. You’ll see!

The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou is one of the Wes Anderson films I hadn’t seen before, and goodness I was happy to see it. I won’t give you any spoilers, and I tried to spoil as little as possible by showing these screenshots from the film. But maybe these are a few things you’d like to know before you are truly convinced you should watch this (asap). The film is, as all Anderson’s film I’ve seen, beautifully curated in all the tiny details with a somewhat quirky storyline.
To be honest, the story of the film is better than I had expected. The protagonist, Steve Zissou, is a bit of a melancholic, but mostly incredibly kickass. He’s a oceanographer who mainly seeks revenge on a mythical shark that killed his partner. He has a crew of all kind of quirky people with him, including his estranged wife and a man who may or may not be his son. The storyline it’s brilliant and hilarious and I think I liked the diversity in character in Steve Zissou (played by Bill Murray) most, very real in a way. He’s such a boss.

Also, Seu Jorge did a wonderful job on the music.

Please do tell me if you’ve seen the movie and your thoughts on it. Have a good weekend!
