Hi Friends! Me, oh my, it’s been too long again. Thank you for all your kinds words on my previous posts. I thought it’d be time for a little update on life and things. My internship is lovely, but now that the end of my studies is near I just can’t seem to wait to actually finish. It’s loads of work, and sometimes I don’t even feel capable enough, while other times I’m just bored out of my mind. And since the offices are so big, I’m still meeting new people everyday. So all in all, it’s kind of much – but I won’t complain.
My thesis deadline is just in a few weeks – I kindly got reminded about how little time there’s left last weekend when I was at my brothers (celebrating the end of his clerkship at the hospital – his master’s are almost done now: wheeeee!). And I may be too optimistic, but I think I might actually be able to all make it on time. I will try and explain a little more on the subject next time I blog.
All in all, to be honest, my heart feels a bit heavy. Finishing up my studies is like ending another era in my life (even though it’s still 4 months away). And thinking about the future can be a little daunting. I’d like to thank my brother again (for when(if?) he might read this), and of course Irene and my brother’s friend too, for the lovely weekend. You gain so many new insights when you hang out with cool people you don’t hang out with much and just, well, talk. Getting my mind, and maybe my heart as well, back on track often involves creating a new mixtape on 8tracks…so there you go. It’s been ages.
I thought throwing in some great old faves of mine would be nice. So if you fancy Sia, Imogen Heap and The Smiths I reckon you put this little one on. And by little one I mean, it’s over in less than 20 minutes. Short but sweet, yes?
I was feeling a bit detached from myself and the world last week. As though everything was going up inside a giant void and life was just blurring past. What better remedy is there than venturing to the seaside on a free afternoon?
The year’s almost over. You guys know by now I love the idea of making music mixes, and actually making them too. They’re not all as good to other people as they are to myself… but I guess I’ve been making ‘mixtapes’ for myself instead of a little audience. There is something so romantic and nostalgic about ‘mixtapes’, a little compilation of thoughts and certain periods of one’s life. I tried to compile a bit of a list with a certain song for every month in 2013.
Now this was quite a hard job, so instead here is just a compilation of the songs that ‘got me through’ 2013; songs that made me happy on sad days; songs that made me even happier on happy days; songs that made me appreciate life more… even songs that made me help accept myself a little more. Goodness, these end-of-another-year crises make me all soul-searchy and weird. But then again, you should know me a little bit by now: I’m far too nostalgic for my own good.
12 songs for 12 months, and a little ‘bonus track’.
#01: Hurts – Blind #02: Temples – Shelter Song #03: Phoenix – Entertainment #04: Vampire Weekend – Step #05: Coconut Records – West Coast #06: Mikhael Paskalev – What’s Life Without Losers #07: Alt-J – Something Good #08: Daughter – Youth #09: Jake Bugg – Taste It #10: Urban Cone – New York #11: The Stone Roses – Tears #12: Hurts – Wonderful Life Bonus: World’s End Girlfriend – The Colours of Adventure
As cheesy as this may sound, this mix of songs means quite a lot to me. They may be quite an eclectic mixture of songs, these do seem to signify my 2013 and it wouldn’t have been the same without them. Especially ‘Hurts’ has done a great deal of good this year. I hope you guys enjoy.
Until next year guys. Hope you have a great new years eve, be good, stay safe and cheers! ;-)
Hey guys, it’s only 23 days until Christmas! I’m planning on getting myself a mini-sized Christmas tree soon. Any of you already mad about Christmas? If you fancy more Christmas tunes, here are the lists I made in 2012 and 2011.
Every time Autumn is around the corner, it instantly becomes my favourite time of year (forgetting that I always said spring is my favourite). It’s that time of year when the air becomes foggy late at night, and when in the morning you can see the sunbeams through the trees. It’s also that time when all the leaves are turning brown, and the skies get a bit more grey… oh and not to forget: Christmas is around the corner too (although it’s really early, even for me, to start talking Christmas already at the beginning of September). — Also, I’m cheating just a tiny bit, this picture is one I took last year round October 20, when I posted this gorgeous-coloured one… oh well!
This is a mix full of happy, nostalgic feelings and songs. It’s best to listen together with rain. I hope you enjoy.
